Well known beagler and Hall of Famer Russ Arend has agreed to write articles and gather news for bracebeagling.com. His initial column will concern the proposed rule change concerning the number of hounds allowed to participate in a pack at a pack trial.
Russ has lots of experience as a writer. He has written numerous articles for both Hounds and Hunting and Brace Beagling News.
Russ has judged over fifty licensed trials and has finished 75 hounds through the years. He has also bred seven field champions including J-Line Ezekiel who won the Purina award. Russ was elected to the Beagling Hall of Fame last year.
Russ is a former president of the Abe Lincoln Association, the Mid Western and the Mid Dixie. He has been the president of two beagle clubs. They include Northern Illinois and Gateway in Florida. He currently belongs to Middle Georgia Beagle Club.
Russ attends trials all over the United States traveling hundreds of miles each year to participate in his beloved sport. He attends between twenty-five and thirty trials a year.
His latest sensation, Tap Root Tiger, won the fifteen-inch futurity class at the Southern. Russ says, Tiger won the brace by tracking a rabbit for over thirty minutes on the tough Lookout Mountain running grounds handling both the front and back. Including the Southern futurity Tiger has won four in a row, He won the last three licensed trials Russ entered him in just before the Southern. In one trial Tiger beat Russs Dog Watsons Mr. Lee who was back high hound. Russ says, because of the very hot weather we were running in I put Tiger down first because of his greater experience and he didnt leave anything for Mr. Lee to clean up.
Russ will be out of action for a couple of weeks as he attends to his mother who recently suffered a stroke. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this trying time.
