Borders Licensed Trial Starts Tomorrow.
Come rain or shine Border Beagle Clubs annual licensed trial begins tomorrow morning at 8 A M sharp when the entries are called for the 13 male class. A large turnout of little males is expected. Sturgeon Creek listed 19 entries last Tuesday for its little male class. Chris Vennix reported that he has received inquires from several surrounding states regarding accommodations. Several beaglers from out state have already kenneled their hounds in preparation for the trial tomorrow. Fred Durst from Ohio, Jim Watson from Tennessee, and Paul Sizemore have their hounds prepared for tomorrows action.
Handlers already present are Jim Burton from Ohio, Bob Coil from Illinois, and Duane Root from Michigan. Paul Snuffy and Linda Edwards are expected to arrive Friday night just in time for the bitch classes Saturday and Sunday.
Tomorrows action promises to be a shoot out at the OK Corral. At least three little males can finish or come close to it after tomorrows action. Jim Watsons Blue Chip needs less than one half point to capture his title and is fresh from winning the little male class at Sturgeon Creek last Tuesday. Paul Sizemores, Gillums Courtyard Checkers has three wins, two of them back to back about a month ago. Fred Dearths fine little male called Hardtime Buddy Ray has two wins and a second in his first two trials. He also won the first two licensed trials he was entered in. All three of these males had very fine practice runs the last two days and are at the top of their game. There are undoubtedly several others I have not mentioned that can come up with a fine performance.
The weather at Border today was heavenly to say the least especially after the high temperature and humidity that encompassed the area yesterday. A cold front with a heavy rain storm hit the area Tuesday evening and the temperature was at least 15 degrees cooler today than it had been the day before. Weather with temperatures in the seventies with a northwest wind is for-cast for tomorrow which should make for a fine day of beagling.
The Border running grounds are in excellent condition. The paths have been mowed to fairway like condition by club members. Rabbits are plentiful and the gallery and kitchen crews are all prepped for action.
