Oak Openings Yellow Tank rolled over the competition today and won the 15 male class during Border Beagle Clubs annual trial. Yellow Tank is owned and was handled by Ohio beagler, Wayne Fisher. He was back seventh in second series and was moved directly to the top after his brace was split. He then defeated Paycheck Big Henry in third series to take home the top prize. The win was his second. He picked up win number one last fall when he won Grand Lake. He also has several other places.
Wayne Fisher was a happy man when I sat down to talk to him shortly after the trial about his victory. Every once in awhile I get lucky, Wayne said with tongue in cheek. (Everyone who knows Wayne is aware that he always puts down a good dog and is in the winner circle quite often) Then he said, I was due for a good run and today I got it.
Wayne named his winning male Yellow Tank for two reasons. First, the dog is built like a tank. Wayne says he has to be careful that he doesnt over feed Tank. The second reason is that Wayne used to be in the oil hauling business and most of his gas and fuel oil trucks were painted yellow. So it seemed appropriate to name the dog that name.
Yellow Tank also has a brother named Klondike that has a win and places. The pair of males were sired by Omena Utah and are out of Waynes bitch called Oak Openings Magic who has produced four champions.
The weather today was hot and humid for most of the day. There were 29 dogs in the class. Del Fawver and Max Scott again did the judging. The trial continues tomorrow when the 13 females are run.
