Field Champion S & J's Short Stuff won the annual turkey trial this afternoon at Red Cedar Beagle Club. She is owned by Basil Minor and Mike Perry, members of Sturgeon Creek Beagle Club. There were seventeen hounds entered in the combined class of males and females.
Short Stuff, who is nine years old, was named high in second series on the strength of a fine run during the fourth brace. She zeroed her rabbit down a path, changing lanes in the process without a flaw. Her brace mate, Field Champion Fuma's Flush, owned by Henry Alkema, ran the back with excellence and was named third hound in second series.
Short Stuff duplicated her first series run during second series. This time trailing her rabbit through cover and turning the rabbit unto a path without a flaw and tracking it down that path to win the trial going away.
Basil and Mike also won a second turkey when they captured fourth place with Trink-A-Line EZ.
James Thwing and his wife Jill did an excellent job of judging the trial.
It was a beautiful fall day for beagling today at Red Cedar. It was cold this morning but the bright sun added a depth of warmth during most of the day.
Club President Ed White and nine year old Austin Schram were the field marshals.
Fill Rustem fixed and served a fine lunch that all the beaglers enjoyed.
Second Series:
1. S & J's Short Stuff vs. Gillum's Courtyard Lilac.
2. Fuma's Flush (D-1) vs. Trink-A-Line EZ.
3. Prime Time Windsor vs. Ver-Mar's Victor (D-4).
Third Series:
1. Gillum's Courtyard Lilac vs. Fuma's Flush.
The trial was ended at this point as the four placed hounds plus the NBQ hound received received a turkey.
